When a car owner decides to put a set of rims on their car, the biggest factor is the appearance of the rim or wheel. This however is not always the biggest obsticle as the owner's selection of rims could effect the car's performance. We have come up with some tips to help you choose the perfect set of wheels.
Rims come in an overwhelming amount of designs so you must decide whether you want something mild or wild when you begin your search. Go to car shows or pick up a current sport compact magazine to get an idea of what's available on the market. Expect to pay a minimum of $1000 for quality rims and make sure you buy a set that is compatible with your car's maximum load rating as well as the proper bolt pattern. If you are not sure of your bolt pattern, click here for our rim size guide.
If you prefer car performance over style, look for a set of rims that isn't too heavy. Large heavy rims on a small car will decrease performance and handling. The added weight may not be supported bu your car's stock suspension and could worsen driving maneuvers. Purchase a set of lighter racing rims such as Buddy Club if you want to improve on performance.
Increasing the size of your rims will not only give your car a more aggressive and sportier look, but it will also give you better performance because of the larger wheel diameter you will get more responsive steering and you car will grip the road better. Buying a set of wheels that a size or two larger then your stock rim will require you purchasing a new set of tires as well. |
