AEM Tech Tip: Removing the torsional vibration damper has been proven to be highly detrimental to the engine. This practice should never be encouraged as the torsional vibration damper helps eliminate the crankshaft's torsional vibration. To improve power, larger pulleys can be used to slow down the power steering and alternator. Power steering pulleys should not be increased in size over the factory components as much as the alternator pulley. Power steering systems run considerably slower than alternators and have a bypass system that reroutes the fluid at higher speeds.
